Mareeba Store Sale Report – 3rd December 2024

Agents yarded 457 head in Mareeba this week. The buyer panel was consistent with previous weeks however the export buyers were not operating as strongly on export spec cattle. The quality of the yarding was good with some very good quality slaughters steers on offer from one of our local producers. This producer also had some excellent quality store cattle for sale this week.

Prices for bullocks eased approximately 10cents/kg, mostly due to reduced competition from buyers. Steers suitable to kill in the over 500kg weight range, got to 306cents/kg.  There were some Brahman steers that were a little under done and these made 280cents/kg. Cows were strong with the good quality heavy weight cows making 240-245cents/kg. Lighter weight cows got to ~220cents/kg. In the export spec bulls, prices eased slightly and were around the 240cents/kg. Bulls, suitable for feedlot, priced around the 240-250cents/kg.

In the store market, quality lines of Brahman store steers got around the 300cents/kg. Quality steers in the lighter weight category, 240-250kg, got to 300cents/kg, while VGQ lighter weight crossbred feeder steers got to 326cents/kg. There was good competition for heifers this week. Top prices were around 230cents/kg, but across the board most quality heifers got over the 200cents/kg mark.

Next Tuesday (10th December) is the last sale of the year for the Mareeba Combined Agents.
